Norman A. Dionne is a partner with Heenan Blaikie's Labour and Employment Law group.
In his labour law practice, Mr. Dionne has accumulated substantial experience with union certifications, the negotiation of collective agreements, the management of labour conflicts and grievance arbitrations.
He also has an important employment law practice, negotiating and drafting employment contracts and assisting in solving disputes arising during the course of employment or upon termination of employment.
Mr. Dionne, who holds degrees in industrial relations and law, focuses his efforts on providing his clients with practical and efficient solutions. While he represents and advises a very diversified clientele, he is a recognized leader on the labour aspects of artistic productions.
For more than two decades, Mr. Dionne has been representing renowned clients from the artistic production sphere. Producers of films, stage shows, sound recordings and video clips, producers’ associations, promoters of live shows and their associations and broadcasters, from Canada and the United States, regularly consult with him.
Along with Roy L. Heenan, Mr. Dionne recently represented the Government of Quebec in discussions on film dubbing, and in the renewal of film and DVD distributor agreements between the Québec Government and the Major American Studios.
In May 2009, Mr. Dionne presented arguments before a Quebec parliamentary commission in relation to proposed amendments to the Act respecting the professional status and conditions of engagement of performing, recording and film artists.
He spoke at numerous conferences and wrote several papers on labour law, employment law and artistic productions. He is accredited under the mandatory continuing education programme of the Bar of Quebec. In 2010, Mr. Dionne co-authored of the first authoritative manual on the Act respecting the professional status and conditions of engagement of performing, recording and film artists.
Mr. Dionne was a director of the Ballets Jazz de Montréal dance company from 2003 to 2008.
Norman A. Dionne joined the firm in 1987 and has been a partner since 1996.
