Philippe Tremblay has been practising commercial litigation since his admission to the Bar in 1987.

In his many years of practice, he has led numerous complex commercial litigation files giving rise to a number of construction law remedies. He has acted in various public-private partnership construction files, and has been called upon to advise and represent public authorities regarding many aspects of these cases, among which the preparation of invitation for proposals documentation as well as the drafting and negotiation of partnership agreements.

Mr. Tremblay spearheaded the preparation of a call for tenders and drafted the contract documentation for a major Gaz Métro project, valued at $800M, involving the construction of a 450-km gas pipeline connecting Jonquière to Sept-Îles, in  northeastern Quebec.

Throughout the years, Mr. Tremblay has developed a solid experience in expropriation and real estate law. He has been the lead in many expropriation files, representing both expropriating authorities and expropriated parties. As such, he represents the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) in the expropriation of several properties in downtown Montreal in order to allow for the construction of the new CHUM and its new research center.

Mr. Tremblay became the firm’s partner responsible for the coordination of the legal services required for the modernisation and redevelopment of the new Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal and its research center by way of a public-private partnership. In that capacity, he coordinates and manages the work teams in order for the CHUM to benefit from full legal support with respect to the negotiation and conclusion of partnership agreements with private partners as well as the construction of new buildings and the negotiation of many related transactions with municipal and government authorities as well as with private parties. He also represents the CHUM with respect to litigation matters that arise in connection to this project, including a multimillion dollar legal action taken against it.

Mr. Tremblay joined Heenan Blaikie in 1993, after having practised at another national law firm for five years.
